Vie di Fuga dal riscaldamento Globale
Il riscaldamento globale mette in crisi la Terra. L'indagine scientifica del clima del passato, lo studio di altri Pianeti e i modelli climatici forniscono una migliore comprensione del cambiamento attuale. L'uscita dal global warming potrebbe coincidere con un lungo periodo caldo, ma ipotesi alternative agitano lo spettro di un balzo veloce verso una nuova glaciazione, che trasformerebbe il “nostro mondo” in quello remoto degli Inuit. Per la sopravvivenza delle specie selvatiche e la tutela della biodiversità, Madre Natura indica una possibile soluzione attraverso le autostrade verdi: i corridoi biologici.
Lungo questi habitat – veri varchi naturali all'interno di un mondo parcellizzato e densamente popolato – animali e piante hanno incominciato a muoversi “verso nord” (nell'emisfero boreale) e comunque verso climi più vivibili e freschi. Molte specie trovano dunque nei corridoi biologici l'unica alternativa all'estinzione. In montagna, il “nord” è la vetta e il corridoio biologico corre dal fondovalle alle praterie alpine e al deserto nivale. I ghiacciai si stanno sciogliendo, ma non è solo questo fenomeno a impensierire per la crisi dell'acqua e la tutela delle specie alpine. In un finale di speranza, Going North affida all'uomo la possibilità di intervenire positivamente per tutelare le autostrade verdi e garantire un futuro alla biodiversità.

Global warming undermines the Earth. The scientific investigation of ancient climate, the study of other planets and climate models provide a better understanding of the actual change. The output from global warming could coincide with a period of hot, but alternative hypotheses raise the specter of a quick rebound to a new ice age, which would change "our world" in the remote Inuit. For the survival of wildlife and biodiversity protection, Mother Nature shows a possible solution through the green highways: the biological corridors. Along these habitats - the true natural openings in a world fragmented and densely populated - animals and plants have begun to move "north" (northern hemisphere) but in climates more livable and fresh.
Many species in biological corridors are therefore the only alternative to extinction. In the mountains, the "north" is the summit and the biological corridor runs from the valley floor to alpine meadows and snow levels of the desert. The glaciers are melting, but this phenomenon is not only a worry for the water crisis and the protection of alpine species. In a final hope, Going North gives to human beings the opportunity to intervene positively to protect the green highways and ensure a future for biodiversity.

Peter Proctor is 78. He has a glass eye and is partially deaf. He can’t stomach hot, spicy food, sings opera obsessively and has left the comforts of life in suburban New Zealand to live and work in India. He is also quietly determined to save the world.
Peter is New Zealand’s father of modern biodynamic farming, an arcane and extreme form of agriculture. Detractors have been known to call it ‘a new age scam.’
But across India thousands of subsistence farmers disagree.
Biodynamic agriculture is changing the landscape by releasing entire communities from the debt cycle, letting destroyed soils by chemical farming revive and the saving the territory by the bio colonialism of multinational corporations.

The Golden Beach

A small group of farmers belonging to the Halakki Gowda tribe live by a small beach in a valley in southern India. When the Swedish film maker Hasse Wester was first there twenty years ago the farmers had little contact with the outside world. Hasse lived with the farmers for more than a year. He learned their language and developed a close friendship with a thirty year old man called Maneshwara. Today life in the valley has changed drastically. There are plenty of cafés and hotels, and white tourists in bikinis are sunbathing on the beach. In the film we follow the farmers´ encounter with the white tourists, and Hasse´s friendship with Maneshwara over a period of twenty years.
