GREEN di Patrick Rouxel
Un film straordinario che riesce a mostrare attraverso l'agonia di un orango, il grande dramma del disboscamento e della scomparsa delle foreste. E' un racconto fatto solo di immagini, senza interviste o speaker esterni, che riesce a denunciare con forza, lucidità e semplicità un problema che riguarda tutti noi. Con grande poesia e con una forte abilità di linguaggio, il regista riesce a impressionare lo spettatore mostrando “in parallelo” la morte “consapevole” dell’orango e la tragedia della deforestazione. Ogni spasmo di dolore di Green è un grido contro lo scempio che l’uomo sta compiendo nei confronti della natura. Attraverso il racconto l’autore riesce a mettere in contrapposizione un sistema naturale, ricchissimo di biodiversità', con un sistema agricolo non sostenibile. Un film commovente, emotivo, struggente ma lucido ed obiettivo nel delineare la situazione pessima della società contemporanea. E che merita di essere visto.

One water: un film universale che ci fa capire l’importanza di un bene prezioso e primario come l’acqua. Un bene a cui non tutti hanno facile accesso, come dimostrano le immagini toccanti e poetiche girate in varie parti del mondo. Un film costruito con una grande sapienza registica, con la capacità di associare immagini di uomini e donne alla ricerca dell’acqua a immagini di vita vissuta , attraverso quello che Eizestejn chiamava “montaggio delle attrazioni”. Un film di grande attualità, che dovrebbe essere mostrato a tutti, come monito contro qualsiasi forma di privatizzazione dell’acqua, capendo che è un bene prezioso e non una merce.
The damned of the sea: Un viaggio toccante e poetico nel mondo dei pescatori del Marocco, raccontato come una fiaba. Personaggi che vivono ai margini della dignità umana, costretti a chiedere l’elemosina per vivere e altri che lavorano alle dipendenze di grosse multinazionali del pesce. Un parallelo e un conflitto che rendono questo film interessante e metafora che diventa specchio fedele della nostra società. Tutto questo raccontato attraverso i dialoghi dei personaggi e il silenzio dei luoghi.

Per aver raccontato con un linguaggio molto semplice una realtà che ci appare come molto lontana ma che racconta un modo di vivere che può essere universale, quello cioè di restare legato alla propria identità. Ha saputo mostrare con grande capacità un sistema di produzione agricolo basato sulle varietà' locali, in contrapposizione alla standardizzazione globale che avanza. Interessante anche per il sapiente equilibrio tra l'intento didascalico e quello puramente descrittivo dell'esperienza documentata.

The story of food: per aver mostrato con uno stile accessibile a tutti, l’importanza di informarci su tutto quello che mangiamo. E mostra con un tono, a volte ironico, anche se didascalico, la provenienza dei cibi “della società dei consumi” sottolineando che serve un rapporto sempre più stretto tra chi coltiva e chi consuma. Da mostrare in tutte le scuole.
Be water my friend: Ha saputo raccontare la disintegrazione di un popolo e di un luogo attraverso le facce e i racconti degli abitanti e creando in modo sapiente e ben calibrato un parallelo tra il lago ricco di vita e il silenzio e la desolazione di quei posti ora che non c’è più acqua. Immagini e volti che parlano e ci fanno rivivere il dramma di quei luoghi e di quegli abitanti.

Paradiso ritrovato: per aver presentato un bell'esempio di un agricoltore impegnato nella conservazione della biodiversità e nella difesa dell'ambiente. Per la capacità di aver raccontato con ironia e leggerezza, “una donna piccola” ma che riesce in un'opera grandissima,quella di modellare la propria esistenza sui ritmi della natura e a dedicarsi totalmente ad essa. E regalando a tutti la sua "utopia possibile" del giardino perfetto in armonia col nostro quotidiano.
The light side of the west: per averci fatto capire con grande efficacia l’importanza della tutela della nostra identità e la difesa delle identità culturali e colturali di tutti i popoli del mondo contro “il mostro” della globalizzazione che avanza senza risparmiare nessuno. Un altro mondo è possibile.

MILKING THE RHINO di David E. Simpson
The bitter taste of tea: forte documentario di denuncia che ha la capacità di mostrare con grande crudezza e senza ipocrisie la condizione dei lavoratori sfruttati nei campi di tè nel Bangladesh. Ma soprattutto ha il forte merito di squarciare un velo sul mondo del commercio “equo e solidale”, in cui tutto sembra limpido e eticamente funzionante. Infatti proprio nelle aziende e nelle piantagioni da cui attinge questo tipo di commercio avviene questo sfruttamento, proprio come in tutte le altre piantagioni e aziende del “commercio tradizionale”. Ha un linguaggio secco, asciutto, che lo rende un reportage di forte impatto emotivo.
Milking the rhino: per aver raccontato con grande efficacia e con grande rigore stilistico, le grandi contraddizioni all’interno dei Parchi africani che secondo alcuni avrebbero dovuto rappresentare la salvaguardia dei propri confini di vita e di sussistenza. E aver mostrato il grande affare del “turismo sostenibile” e della vita all’interno dei Parchi, attraverso l’imposizione di mode del tutto deleterie per quelle popolazioni, che da una parte ricevono denaro e benessere economico, ma dall’altra subiscono la perdita della propria identità culturale e storia.

The best long film
GREEN by Patrick Rouxel
An extraordinary film that through the agony of an orangutan succeeds in showing the drama of deforestation and the extinction of forests. This is the story composed only of images, without interviews or outside speakers that reports with power, transparency and simplicity the problem that regards us all. With poetic and master language the director manages to impress the viewer by showing “in parallel” the “conscious” death of the orangutan and the tragedy of deforestation. Every spasm of Green’s pain is a cry against the destruction that a man is doing to nature. Through the story the author manages to oppose the natural system and the richness of biodiversity with the unsustainable agricultural system. A touching, emotional, worrisome but bright and objective film outlines the dreadful situation of the contemporary society. It is worth to be seen.

One water: A universal film that makes us understand the importance of such a precious and primary resource as water. A resource non everyone has an easy access to, as proved by the touching and poetic images took in the various parts of the world. A film shoot with a big director knowledge, with the capacity to associate the images of men and women in the search of water to the images of life, lived through, as Eizenstein called this, “montage of attractions”. A very current film that should be shown to everybody as a warning against any form of privatization of water, understanding that water is a precious resource and not a commodity.
The damned of the sea: A touching and poetic trip through the world of Morocco’s fishermen narrated as a fairy tale. Characters that live on the edge of the human dignity, forced to beg and others who work depending on big multinationals. A parallel and a conflict make this film interesting and a metaphor becomes the faithful mirror of our society. This is told through the characters’ dialogs and the silence of the places.

THE LIGHT SIDE OF THE WEST by Arianna Colliard
For describing with a very simple language the reality that seems to be distant but which describes the way of life that can be universal, which is being connected to one’s own identity. The director managed to show with great skill the system of agricultural production based on local varieties, as opposed to spreading global standardization. The film is also interesting from the point of view of the didactic and descriptive purpose of the documented experience.

The story of food: for showing with an easily understood approach the importance of being informed about the food we eat. The films shows with, sometimes ironic, but also didactic tone the origin of food of “the consumption society” underlining that it is important to have a closer connection between those who produce and those who consume food. To be shown in all schools.
Be water my friend: the film tells about the disintegration of people and a place though the faces and stories of its inhabitants, creating in a knowledgeable and clear way a parallel between the rich lake of life and the silence and desolation of those places that have no more water. Speaking images and faces that make us revive the drama of those places and its inhabitants.

Paradiso ritrovato: for having presented a good example of a farmer engaged in the conservation of biodiversity and environment defense. For the ability to tell with irony and lightness the story of “a small woman” who manages to dedicate herself completely to the rhythms of nature, changing her way of life. She presents everyone her “possible utopia” of a perfect garden in the harmony with our daily life.
The light side of the west: for making all of us understand the importance of preserving our own identity and defending the cultural and cultivated identities of all the world’s nations against “the monster” of globalization that is advancing disregarding everyone. Another world is possible.

MILKING THE RHINO by David E. Simpson
The bitter taste of tea: a strong documentary that has a capacity to show with great rigity and without hypocrisy the conditions in which workers of the tea plantations of Bangladesh are being exploited. The film has an advantage of showing the real face of “fair” trade, where everything just seems to be clear and ethical and in fact is not. In fact, these companies and plantations are the places where, just like in “traditional trade”, people are exploited. The film talks a dry, rigid language that makes it a reportage of a strong emotional impact.
Milking the rhino: for narrating with great efficacy and stylistic rigor the contradictions in the parks of Africa, places that according to some people would represent preservation of one’s own borders of life and existence. The film shows the connection between “sustainable tourism “ and life in the parks through the imposition of destructive patterns for local population, that, from one side, gets money and economic wellbeing, but from the other – the loss of their own identity and history.
